Welcome to website of the 79th Cameron Highlanders  Living History Regiment. We are a group of people who are dedicated to re-enacting life as it would have been in the 79th Cameron Highlanders Regiment during the Peninsular wars and the battle of Waterloo.  We try to recreate as authentically as possible the everyday life for the soldiers and their families within the regiment, using costume, muskets, drums and food cooked to authentic recipes.

The regiment meets regularly at Fort Amherst, Chatham, Kent a genuine and is the best preserved Napoleonic fortress in Britain designed and built to protect Chatham Dockyard, which is situated on the River Medway during the threat of an invasion by our enemies.

Our uniforms, much of which we make ourselves and drill are based on the regiment just before the Battle of Waterloo. We participate in various re-enactments both home and abroad, organised by the Napoleonic Association to which we are a member plus other events organised within ourselves.

We are proud of our living history section which aims to provide an insight into the camp life of a regiment of that period. This aspect of our group provides opportunities to persons who may not want to portray the life a line infantryman, but still be actively involved in the group.

Furthermore we also have our own Pipers and  Drummers in their distinctive reverse colour tunics.  We welcome any interested musicians, whether they be experienced players, or just wishing to learn.

Our unit caters for every member of the family, whether you would like to be a soldier, a camp wife or a musician, there will always be a place for you within the 79th.

Any member of the unit who wishes to be on the battlefield, will have to undergo special safety training and if you wish to fire a musket you will have to have the following; a Current Shot Gun Licence and also  Black Powder Licence, both of which can be obtained from the police at a charge. And if you wish to keep your musket at home will also have to have a Gun Cabinet or a Lockable Gun Rack. Some events we attend are also Napoleonic Association events, so membership of this organisation will also have to be obtained from the following web address:   www.napoleonicassociation.org/ you can have a family or personal membership and all of the prices are on their web site.
