Camp Life
You wake up to a fairly early morning feeling fairly refreshed because of the clean air and the birds singing around you. The fire is lit so the breakfast preparations can begin at which time all of the camp followers are awake and ready. The men emerge from the tent and are fed ready to get on with drills, there is then repairs to be made, little holes in clothes, a missing button and the like. After a while the boys go onto the battlefield, some of the camp followers are trained and prepared to follow their men, we carry water and a dampened cloth for burns and for injuries, it also contributes as a distress flag should the need arise, this is of course a rare occurrence. After the excitement and adrenaline rush of the battle it's back to camp life and society, a good chat whilst preparing lunch always lifts the spirits and a good sing song to lighten the mood. The children play nearby, games and running around, enjoying the atmosphere. The evening meal is eventually prepared and everyone settles down to relax and enjoy themselves, an old day finishes and a new one begins
